The person blocking your transformation is the one who approved it.

The Insight There is a specific kind of transformation failure that does not show up in project plans or risk registers. It shows up in a single sentence from your executive sponsor: "Let's pause and revisit the approach." That sentence means your transformation just lost its top-level support, and if you do not address it in the next two weeks, the pause becomes permanent.

Here is what happened: the executive who approved your transformation six months ago is not the same executive sitting in that chair today. They approved a vision. Now they are accountable for delivery, and something shifted -- a board question they could not answer, a peer who raised doubt, a cost overrun that made them look exposed. They are not blocking the transformation because they changed their mind. They are blocking it because continuing makes them feel at risk.

Most transformation leaders respond to executive resistance by adding more detail to the plan. More milestones. Better reporting. A revised timeline. None of that works because the problem is not information. The problem is confidence. The executive does not need more data. They need one conversation where you acknowledge what is making them nervous and give them a way to stay committed without feeling exposed.

One Thing to Try This Week If your sponsor has gone quiet or started adding conditions, request 20 minutes one-on-one. Do not bring a status deck. Bring one question: "What would make you feel confident recommending we continue at the next board meeting?" Write down what they say. That is your real risk register.
